Phonics and Early Literacy
Through phonics and early literacy children will learn to recognize the letters of the alphabet, (uppercase and lowercase) match them to their corresponding sounds, hear and manipulate individual sounds, and begin working with letters to form simple words. Children will have lots of fun as they match the picture cards of cat and hat together and discover that they have made a rhyme.

Literature and Print Concepts
Giving children the opportunity to listen to and read all sorts of books will enhance their love and passion for reading. Children will also learn how to hold a book correctly, where to begin reading, and the role of the author and illustrator. Children will listen and watch excitedly to see what thing the Little Cloud will be on the next page of the story “Little Cloud” by Eric Carle. “If you were a cloud what would you be?”

Communication
By helping children learn to communicate they will begin to share ideas and information, listen and respond to stories, and participate in group discussions. Children will enjoy sharing their new toy with the class and explaining how they play with it.

Music and Creative Movement
Through music and creative movement children enjoy using their entire bodies for learning, helping to develop their large motor skills. Children also become aware of different kinds of music and learn to sing or move to a rhythm. Children will laugh and giggle as they march to the rhythm and beat of a drum that gets faster and slower.

Number Sense and Problem Solving
By helping children to acquire number sense and problem solving skills they will learn how to represent numbers and find relationships in number patterns. Children will develop critical thinking skills that will help them sort and classify various things. Children will have fun singing the number song and counting objects all around them.

Arts and Crafts
The children will experience arts and crafts as they learn to cut, paste, glue, draw, color, and paint. As children use their hands to touch and explore different kinds of materials they will also develop and strengthen their fine motor skills. Children will enjoy getting their fingers all gooey as they paint a masterpiece with different colors of pudding.

Science
Giving children the opportunity to experience science with hands on activities will encourage children to explore and discover the world around them. Children will have so much fun as they wait anxiously for the volcano to explode with bright colors of pink and blue.

Social Studies
Through social studies children will develop cultural awareness and begin to recognize that people have similarities and differences. They will be exposed to various cultures and develop an appreciation for their country. Children will be fascinated while learning that children all over the world wear different clothing and eat different foods.
